I guess this thread can be for some of those 'DEAR GOD!' moments...but, well, here goes the first one.
I have just been inducted into a symphony...and my first concert is on the tenth... ***Oh and yes, it gets better!
...
I don't have not one piece of music for it yet.
***Better YET!!!
I'm third chair...out of 5...that's great for my career...bad for me at the moment...I'm going to die...
DEAR GOD!!! WHAT DID I DO TO GET IN THIS???
Love a bunch... ~Shannon

Well, my 'Oh Lord' moment has passed. The concert was tonight and with less than two weeks of prep time and actual having the music, it sounded pretty good. I was asked to come back in May if I am not busy to sit second chair beside the principle player, who is sponsored by Carnegie Mellon University. I was also asked if I got lessons, which I do, and was told that if I ever needed more lessons, I would get 2 hour sessions for free by the second chair this year. Our guest conductor, Efain (with un accento over el ' i ' ) Amaya, [and was born in Venezuela with an amazing accent] told me that if I would ever need help getting into a college, to have the admissions office call him personally and he would have a few words with them. He told me that I should go to CMU, Duquesne, or PITT because he teaches at all 3. I told him that I was grateful and what not.
But, just wanted to fill you in. We got there at one and did a lot of talking and breathing. At 6, we moved into the auditorium for our run through and the concert started at 8. We played through 'Mars, the Bringer of War' from THE PLANETS, {in case you'd want to listen} and I got a solo, which had me freaked out because I had to transpose...but I nailed it and was ecstatic.
Thanks and much love with huggles, rum and anything else you could want that I could give you,
~Shannon

Congrats, Shannon. That sounds great. You were nervous but it all worked out and it worked out even better than you probably thought. Now you have connections for when you go to study at the University and additional benefits. I'm glad you did great and now have admirers lol
